About me

The meaning of my life emerges from the joy I have in facilitating the development of autonomy in others,to experience what this wonderful world has to offer us, when we free ourselves from old patterns that no longer serve us positively. We then can develop new patterns to achieve more of our potential ways of living and working.

As a coaching psychologist I feel comfortable in authentically understanding others and in accepting everyone I meet or work with unconditionally, empathically and non-judgementally.

I am passionate about nature, democratic education and ethics, with a BA from UNISA, majoring in Philosophy and English literature, postgraduate diplomas in Education, a BA Hons in Counselling and Clinical Psychology and an MA in the Psychology of Education from the University of London.

I left South Africa with my family in the 1970’s to join my anti-apartheid family in London, where I worked and studied to become a psychologist. I returned in 1981 to serve as Senior Counsellor and Head of the Counselling and Careers Unit at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg until 1996.

I have been in private practice since then, and joined COMENSA (Coaches and Mentors of South Africa) in 2006. My practice integrates coaching, psychology and education.

My Services

The focus of coaching is to think together with me about how you can deal with one or more challenges in your life and work, in order to function more resiliently, happily and optimally. At times the focus may shift to more psychological or psychophysiological issues. Being a coaching psychologist enables me to identify these shifts in focus and to make you aware of them and then decide if you want to go deeper into working in other modes of Self-exploration.

You may need more information about how we humans generally function in relating to ourselves, to our individual and organisational work roles and tasks, and in relating with individuals and groups.

A psychological approach where I listen very carefully and reflect what I hear, so that you can clarify what you are feeling and thinking, and help you to make sense of it so that you can make more mindful decisions about what you want to do.

Andrew is just incredible. He is the epitome of cool, calm collectedness. He comes with a wealth of personal, professional and academic knowledge, experience and stories. A journey with him is both enlightening and fascinating. He creates a safe space of non-judgement, curiosity and release. I adore him. Whilst I make use of his services for myself, he is also the only person in South Africa, I feel 180% confident in referring other people to – for both therapy and coaching.
